Everyone will expect you to be humane.
You will be reimbursed for your work, but not for your humanity.
How do you keep your humanity without giving yourself up?
How do you stay inspired?
- Rakesh Sarma, MD
Fatigued, burned-out, overwhelmed, unfulfilled, cynical, or helpless?
Do the difficult experiences of early medical training or present work affect you today?
How have you taken care of yourself and your inner state during the pandemic? How has work affected you during these trying times?
Are you looking to expand your own philosophy of healthcare but feel limited by the current model?
Do personal and professional expectations meet the reality you live in?
Who are you - when you wear the provider's hat, and when you take it off? Can you take it off on your terms?
Has the practice of medicine lost its meaning for you?
What is 'your medicine?' In other words, how do you personalize the practice of medicine for yourself?
Do you practice the health you preach?
Do you inspire health or do you feel like you feed a healthcare system? Can you do both?
Are you satisfied with yourself as a physician leader? Can you do more?
As a physician leader is your communication style or intention effective? Does it mirror your values?
Many of these questions and more came up for me over the past 20 years when I worked as hospitalist in a tertiary care center and in a large psychiatric hospital, as a primary care physician, and as an integrative medicine specialist.
I have seen these questions plague many physicians and healthcare leaders as well as APPs, nursing staff, and office personnel - seeding them with doubt and fatigue and leading often to burnout and miscommunication.
As a Healthcare Coach, I can help you with these questions and provide solutions and tools to help you adapt and return to your authenticity, resilience, and innate leadership. As a Certified Physician Development Coach, I have coached primary care physicians, integrative medicine doctors, cardiologists, family medicine physicians, surgeons, ophthalmologists and emergency room physicians across the country. For example, in training in Somatic Experiencing, I learned what trauma and traumatic situations can do to person's outlook on life as well as their physiology. Loss of patients, negative outcomes, grief and helplessness, coming to terms with certain inevitabilities - all of these can be processed appropriately or suffered immeasurably.
And these daily situations can affect all levels of personnel in Healthcare. I hold immeasurable gratitude for the support staff who worked with me, in tandem caring tirelessly for patients above and beyond. In addition to my physician colleagues, they are colleagues of mine in their own right - they have their own experiences and all-too-often are undervalued because they deal with the emotional and physical aspects in a direct way. As a Healthcare Coach, I have coached registered nurses, nursing assistants, medical assistants, and office support staff in private practice and in large hospital settings. I emphasize the collaborative team potential - as much to care for themselves as others.
I use a combined methodology - utilizing principles of Co-active Coaching, Somatic Experiencing, Enneagram Coaching amongst others to help elicit the change in the current state that Physicians are seeking.
For Frontline Workers we offer 3 Condensed Sessions tailored to your immediate needs. This is specifically designed to be a shorter and more focused offering.
This offering is for physician clients who are facing difficulties with experiences that can infuriate, freeze, or numb. For those who have witnessed suffering and death and are struggling to balance objectivity with compassion. These are for those physicians who are on the frontline and need a colleague to talk to in a safe space. This is meant to help you identify points that could lead to breakdown and help prevent you from going there. You will be given tools and coping strategies based on the organic nature of our conversations. These sessions may help you find the strength, hope, and capacity to give without depletion.
The Inspired Physician Program is our premiere intensive executive coaching program for physicians. Recognizing that a Physician’s lifestyle often lends to a self-sacrificial and externally dedicated focus, this program serves to help you become more determined in recreating a sense of authenticity and balance in your life or develop authentic leadership skills.
The program is designed to work in three phases over 6 months:
1) The Discovery Phase
2) The Implementation Phase
3) The Reassessment and Wrap-Up Phase
The length of the program is specifically designed based on the following factors:
(a) you as a client are actually seeking a change
(b) an honest accounting of your tendencies and resistances against that change needs to be evaluated
(c) the underlying values that will support your needed shift need to be identified and strengthened
(d) the institution of personal checks and balances to prevent bounce back into former patterns needs to be established.
The intensive nature of this program therefore requires you and your coach to establish mutually agreed-upon accountability points. The rapport you develop with each other is intended to be motivational and inspirational, and this will encourage the work you put in to help you delve into the determination, discipline, and dedication needed to create your own change.
The Inspired Physician Program can help provide you the answers you are looking for within yourself. This customized program is designed to bring self-awareness to your values, motivators, personal obstacles and how to overcome them by being less reactive and more responsive (mindful/ self-aware). With these tools and learnings you can make more authentic shifts, become resilient as opposed to burnt-out, or become a more inspiring and confident leader.
For many of my clients (whether it be a CEO/CMO of a medical care corporation, a primary care physician, a NP or PA, or a small office staff), a program is more than they are in a position to participate in. As such, they see me on a biweekly, monthly, or quarterly basis. This is completely customizable to the client and is based purely on the needs of the coaching moment.

We offer small group coaching sessions utilizing different modalities. We have offered trainings at the C-suite medical corporation level in the Enneagram, and also done group resilience and burnout coaching at multiple medical and surgical offices for staff. This is a great option to help build team camaraderie and resilience, especially during pandemic times.
